Project Snapshot | TerraShield Chosen as Most Protective Economical Vapor Intrusion Mitigation Solution for Large Logistics Facility

Project Snapshot Highlights:

A long-vacant San Francisco Bay Area brownfield was once the site of a former chemical plant that produced chlorofluorocarbons, fuel additive anti-knock compounds, and titanium dioxide from 1956 to 1997. With onsite rail service and more than three million households within 50 miles, the property was considered a prime location for a new 2.2 million square foot logistics development. However, the site’s prior industrial history left residual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the subsurface and posed a potential vapor intrusion risk. Following a cost-benefit analysis and thorough evaluation of contaminant vapor barrier systems available, TerraShield® Metalized Nitrile Contaminant Vapor Barrier was selected for the new logistics building

Brochure | Superior Chemical Resistance Over any Vapor Barrier on the Market

The Land Science research and development team of scientists have invested years in developing the TerraShield vapor barrier system, which delivers orders of magnitude higher vapor intrusion protection as compared to the leading vapor barrier system. The new, innovative, metalized material and multiple layers of protection are key to the increased performance. The R&D team also improved on the core material, incorporating nitrile, known for its chemical resistance, as a key component. The result is a 100 times more effective protection as compared to existing vapor barriers in recent laboratory tests.

Newly Patented Vapor Barrier System Incorporates Metalized Film to Offer 100x Chemical Resistance

Land Science was recently awarded a U.S. patent for the innovative use of a reinforced geomembrane comprised of an encapsulated, metalized layer and installed with Nitra-Core, a spray-applied nitrile-modified asphalt. This patented innovation is integral to the enhanced protection built into MonoShield and TerraShield. As part of the U.S. patent process, Land Science scientists presented lab testing data that compared the design of the new vapor intrusion barrier technology to commonly used high-density polyethylene (HDPE) systems, and found that TerraBase+ provided 100 times more protection from TCE vs. the HDPE tested.

Client Spotlight | Glenn Burks

When it comes to utilizing a skill set that includes operational leadership, teamworking and mentoring, Glenn Burks, Principal Environmental Engineer and Director of Environmental Services for Group Delta Consultants, appears to be checking all the right boxes. Burks joined Group Delta nearly 10 years ago after working as a Project Manager and Sr. Project Manager for several environmental remediation firms. In his current role at Delta, he manages the Environmental Division, and is responsible for overall division finances, recruiting, business development and final technical QA/QC of work products.

Welcome to the Team, Chris Medvetz!

Land Science is excited to announce that Chris Medvetz has joined our team and accepted the role of Technical Sales Manager for the Northeast District. Based in the greater Boston area, Chris is ready to support your next Vapor Intrusion Mitigation project. He brings with him several years of experience in environmental consulting, where he was involved in vapor intrusion assessments, vapor barrier installation oversight, construction oversight, and site assessment and remediation. If you would like to speak with Chris to discuss your upcoming project or join us in welcoming him to our growing team, you can contact him at the information below.
