Pre-emptive Vapor Mitigation Protects Students from Potential Exposure at California Site

This case study reviews a high school that has been a fixture in its Southern California community since it was built in the 1930’s. Due to onsite pesticide use, a vapor intrusion mitigation system was necessary to protect students and staff. The environmental team responsible for treating the potential vapor intrusion identified the historical use of pesticides on site and voluntarily sought a remedial solution to protect the site’s future occupants. In efforts to protect students and staff against potentially harmful vapor intrusion as a result of historic releases, a vapor intrusion barrier system was proposed as the most appropriate remedial approach.

New eBook Providing 10 Reasons to Consider Retro-Coat to Protect Your Property Investment

Vapor intrusion occurs when there is migration of vapor-forming chemicals from any subsurface contaminant source into an overlying building. When vapor intrusion is detected, it becomes necessary to design a solution to mitigate the problem. Retro-Coat™, a chemically resistant coating designed to resist aggressive chemical vapors, is a cost-effective technology with many advantages over alternative options for existing structures and has been gaining popularity and acceptance as an effective vapor intrusion mitigation strategy. To learn more about the benefits of Retro-Coat, download the eBook.

Vapor Intrusion Coating System for Existing Structures

The Retro-Coat Vapor Intrusion Coating System is a complete product line that consists of chemically resistant materials to properly protect existing structures from the threat of vapor intrusion without the need for additional concrete protection. Developed by the Research and Development team at Land Science, the Retro-Coat system has been subjected to rigorous testing procedures to prove its ability to combat the most aggressive chemical vapors. Land Science Continues to Work Safely to Ensure Protection Against Contaminant Vapor Intrusion

While the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing many companies to implement “stay at home” directives, Land Science is continuing to actively implement vapor intrusion mitigation programs. Vapor mitigation is considered critical to ensure the safety of building occupants by preventing exposure to contaminants in indoor air. While our vapor barrier products are still being installed, we are taking additional steps to ensure the safety of our applicators, employees and clients. All personnel in the field are maintaining social distancing, taking additional steps to ensure hygiene, and wearing appropriate protective masks to protect themselves and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. For the most current information on COVID-19, we recommend you rely on the CDC website here.

7 Reasons to Hire a Land Science Certified Applicator

The effectiveness of a vapor intrusion mitigation (VIM) system depends on the quality of its installation. Improper installation can lead to vapors entering occupied spaces, potentially harming human health, and exposing the owners to legal liability. In order to minimize the possibility of system failure, it is highly advisable to hire an applicator who has undergone a rigorous certification process demonstrating they can meet strict manufacturer installation standards.
